Right to Rent checks and tenant ID checks for landlords and letting agents in England. The Tenant Check combines a GPG45 digital identity check (photo ID plus a live selfie) with the Right to Rent check in one purchase; the Home Office share code check is also available on its own. £15.50 plus VAT per tenant.
Tenant Check: Right to Rent and ID check in one
The tenant completes a GPG45 identity check (photo ID document plus a live selfie matched to it), then the Right to Rent step. British and Irish passport holders are covered by the verified passport; everyone else enters their Home Office share code and date of birth.
Right to Rent check for British and Irish citizens
British and Irish citizens cannot get a share code. A valid British or Irish passport (or Irish passport card) verified digitally with a live selfie is recorded as confirming the right to rent.
Right to Rent share code check
For other tenants the share code is checked against the official Home Office online service, recording the right to rent status, any expiry or follow-up date and any conditions shown.
Tenant check, not full tenant referencing
The Tenant Check covers identity and right to rent. It does not include credit, employment or previous landlord references.
Independent of GOV.UK
VerifyOnline is not the Home Office or GOV.UK. Tenants can obtain a share code free of charge; this is a paid service for landlords who want the check completed and documented.
Pricing
£15.50 plus VAT per tenant for the Tenant Check or the share code check alone, with packs of 3 and 10 for letting agents and landlords with several tenancies.
